Toppilansalmi Harbour used to be one of the most important harbours in Oulu. The area was an important factory area, with silos and mills as landmarks. The former factory area has been transformed into a modern residential area. This part of Toppila is also known as Länsi-Toppila and the Toppilansalmi area. The maritime environment offers a variety of outdoor activities. The area has grocery stores and many other services, from pizzerias to car repair shops. The services and nature of Hietasaari are also nearby.
