Of the five names that made it to the next round, the residents of the municipality voted for Puijonkuppe as the winner with over 1,000 votes.
Puijo hill and the surrounding areas cover approximately 660 hectares. The forests in the area are classified as park, outdoor, recreational, landscape and shelterbelt forests, as well as nature reserves. The area has good berry and mushroom picking terrain. Puijo has, among other things, three nature trails and outdoor trails serve as the basis for various lengths of ski runs, some of which are demanding, in winter.
The Puijo area is also a sports center, with, among other things, a hill station, a baseball stadium, a frisbee golf course and ball fields. There is also plenty to do for water animals! Finland’s second largest swimming pool, Kuntolaakso swimming pool, can be found less than a kilometer away. Next to the swimming pool is the Kuopio ice rink, whose winter activities include ice hockey, figure skating and rink ball.
The nearby Kuopio hall, in turn, hosts fairs, exhibitions and concerts. The distance from Opistokuja to Kuopio Market Square is less than a couple of kilometers.
