The ideal location of the new Puijonkuppe residential area gives you the opportunity to enjoy the services of the city center within walking distance as well as the green nature of the nearby Puijo forest. Puijonkuppee got its name in a name contest, where more than 700 name suggestions came in the first round. Out of the five names that made it to the next round, the townspeople voted for Puijonkuppee as the winner with more than 1,000 votes.

Puijo hill and the surrounding areas cover about 660 hectares. The area’s forests have been classified as parks, outdoor recreation, recreation, landscape and shelter forests, as well as nature conservation areas. There are good berry and mushroom growing terrains in the area. Puijo has, among other things, three nature trails and the outdoor trails serve as the base for cross-country ski runs of different lengths, some of which are demanding. The Puijo area is also a sports center with e.g. hill center, baseball stadium, frisbee golf course and ball fields.

There is plenty to do even for aquatic animals! The second largest swimming hall in Finland, Kuntolaakso swimming hall, can be found less than a kilometer away. Next to the swimming pool is the Kuopio ice rink, whose winter activities include ice hockey, figure skating and rinkball. Fairs, exhibitions and concerts are organized in the nearby Kuopio hall.

It is less than a couple of kilometers from Opistokuja to Kuopio market.
